Ex-voto

A dear friend offered me to make a drawing to my birthday. So I asked her an ex-voto with the wish following : "I would like to reach to return to the flow of everything that happens. May the wicked, the jealous and envious haven't power over me, that God gives me wings to resist at all the mediocrities, that come at me lighted people, beautiful and benevolent."

Thank you, Marisa

Yes? (answering the call) :-)

Momo said...

Why not ? :o)

No. I'm actually a believing Catholic, albeit not a very orthodox one.

Your are alone, or you be part of a specific religious ordre ?

What do you think about iconoclasts ?

Momo said...

With the expression "not a very orthodoxe" you mean that you have an original position inside of catholic religion ?

What do you think about sacral images ?

And what do you think about pious popular images ?

What do you think about this kind of images ?

I actually belonged to a religious congregation for five years. Now, I live alone.

What I mean by not very orthodox is that I certainly don't follow every dictate that comes down from Rome.

By iconoclasts, do you mean people who don't conform to received ideas about religion in general or about the actual Byzantine Iconoclasts of the early Middle Ages?

I'm not a big fan of popular imagery. I know why it has meaning and appeal to people, but it does not really appeal to me. I prefer art that suggests inner symbolism than actual representations of scenes like the one you put up of the Virgen.

Momo, Marisa's present is really magnificent. To realize a work, it is necessary to show the project, to capture the idea and to make it yours.

Doréus, inner feelings don't prevent people to show how they have been exauced.
It is an encouragement for people to see that the prayer helped the others.
The image which Momo shows of the prostitute who thanks the Virgin Mary is to be understood like that.

Hello, Doreus, thank you for your generous explanations. I wanted talk rather the puritan iconoclasm (protestant reform).

Contrary to you, I'm in love of pious popular images :

We feel in these pious images the absolute trust that the persons who drew them put in the Lord.

It is a kind of naïve art.

Momo said...

What is naive ? This art or the trust of people ?

Personally, long time ago that I stopped to think that the belief could be naif.

Momo said...

Don't you feel any humour ?

It's difficult to me to say that these paintings are completely naive, I tend to think that there are more lucidity than we believe.

krn said...

Momo, I never said that these persons were naive. The faith and the trust in God are essential in my life.
It is the drawn expression which is naive, nothing else.

Momo, do you really think I have not got sense of humour?

Momo said...

I think you are one of the persone who have the most sens of the humour, krn.

krn said...

I think that you are the friend whom I needed. Thank you for your presence.

Momo said...

Thank you too, krn. Your presence make me happy too.

I tidies my desk, that's boring and it seem to me that I will never end.

And I'm confronted at the procrastination.

krn said...

Momo, I am not at home. I'll be back in half an hour. Will you wait for me?

krn said...

Momo, do you mean that you tidy up your real desk not the one of the computer ?
I understand that you procrastinate, I would have to do it too.
You are braver than me.

Momo said...

Krn, I wanted say that I tidy up my flat.

I doubt I'am bravest that you, I'm very lazy in front of the housework.

But, now it behind me, I'm relieved.

krn said...

I congratulate you, Momo, I made nothing. I only clean the kitchen at the moment. The rest is terribly in a mess.

I believe that I am going to need at least two weeks to make everything.

Momo said...

Are you this kind of persons for who tidy up take too much time compared from the result ?

Momo said...

Of course, I would like live in an immaculate flat, but that take so much time to tidy up !!!!!

krn said...

Momo, when I make something, it is necessary that it is perfect, I can spend three hours on all fours to clean my joints of stone floor with a toothbrush.

On the other hand, I can leave quantities of books on an armchair during several days and I sometimes have difficulty in finding two socks of the same color.

krn said...

maybe I should not have said this to you.
Am I blown out ?

krn said...

Immaculate ? My floor is white. Do you understand why I spend such a time ? But, the advantage is that it doesn't only seems clean, it is real.

Momo said...

Blown out ?

Don't worry, krn, we are of the same side.

Does you are still stand up ?

... and here I am, in the midst of doing housecleaning too!

To go back to the original question that was asked of me, I really did not express what I meant very well: If these images don't really resonate with me as a person, I, on the other hand, quite understand the importance they have for the piety and spiritual life of those who drew them. I have a lot of respect for that. It's just not an expression of faith that really reflects who I am.

These images are beautiful expressions of deep faith and confidence (and abandon in the Lord).

As for housecleaning, I'm rather fastidious... and so I'd better get back to it! Have a good night, both of you!

krn said...

Good housecleaning, Doréus.

I feel late with regard to both of you.

You know how it is KRN, it's a never-ending race against dust.

krn said...

Yes, I know that. And against the hairs of black cat, black on white.

I have just finished to collect twenty five thousand buttons which Léandra had scattered everywhere.

Momo said...

You are a wise man, Doreus, fight against dust is never ending, and we come from dust, and we will return in dust.

krn said...

Momo, do you think I must go on and hoover the vacuum cleaner now either to go to sleep and to raise earlier tomorrow ?

Momo said...

Ho, I wanted see the buttons on the floor, why didn't you take a photograph for us ?

krn said...

Do you know that the Celtic did not clean their house for Samain, not to risk to sweep the souls of their dead relatives and friends ?

krn said...

Don't worry, Momo, that was not the first time and not the last...
I promise you to take this photograph next time.

Anonymous said...

25,000 exactly? That must have been a sight! :-)

I suggest you rest and then do the vacuuming tomorrow. That way, the souls of your ancestors will be with you for at least another night.

Momo said...

Hum... If I consider that you don't live in a flat, I think the vacuum cleaner isn't a problem to you now. Your neighbours are far from you, isn't it ?

krn said...

Yes, Momo, they are as far as I don't hear them and they don't hear me, even when I decide to sing or to listen to percussions at midnight.

But vacuum cleaner is less funny...

Momo said...

Yes, we must invent a music for vacuum cleaner, in harmony with vacuum cleaner, I alway said that.

You like percussion ?

Good night.

krn said...

And I begin to get tired. If I allow to pass the hour, I shall sleep no more and tomorrow will be hideous.

The dust may wait, and I am sure that it won't move itself.

krn said...

Yes, I like very much percussions.
My wooden spoons know how I like percussions.

Music for wacuum cleaner, that's a great idea. I am sure we could make money with the CD.

Momo said...

The dust may wait. Good title for a book !

WLa poussière peut attendre", it sounds nice.

krn said...

Good night to you, Momo.
Yes we are of the same side.

Momo said...

Have you got the sens of the rhythm with an instrument of percussion ?

Good night, krn.

krn said...

Yes Momo, with a woodenspoon and a saucepan. I was two years old.
